Allen F. Anderson, M.D.
Dr. Anderson is a 1976 graduate of
the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopaedics
at Vanderbilt University and is a board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic
Surgery.
A specialist in sports medicine
with a keen interest in knee injury and ligament reconstruction, Dr. Anderson was
influenced both by his years as an athlete and by The Lipscomb Clinic founder Dr. Brant
Lipscomb, Sr., whom he considers his mentor.
Dr. Anderson has a thorough
understanding of the unique needs of athletes with regard to treatment and prevention of
injuries. He participated in a variety of youth athletics, including baseball, football,
track and wrestling. He was captain of his high school football team and a TSSAA football
AllStar, and he was voted Most Athletic. During his college years, he participated in
athletics at UT.
As a result of his efforts to
continuously improve patient care, Dr. Anderson was appointed chairman of the
International Knee Documentation Committee which develops assessment of results for
surgeons around the world. Dr. Anderson was also selected as an examiner by the American
Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons which provides board certification to all orthopaedic
surgeons. He was instrumental in establishing a program that now provides athletic
trainers for area high schools.
Dr. Anderson has given numerous
presentations to national and international groups. He is a frequent contributor
of scientific articles to books on sports medicine and various medical journals.
In recognition, Dr. Anderson was appointed to the editorial board of the
American Journal of Sports Medicine and Board of Directors of the International
Cartilage Repair Society, Chairman of the International Knee Documentation
Committee. He is also a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Genzyme
Biosurgery Corporation, and scientific committee of the International Society of
Arthroscopic and Knee Surgery. He is a member of the medical staff of St. Thomas
Hospital and of Centennial Medical Center.
Outside the work setting, Dr.
Anderson enjoys spending time with his wife, Candy, and three sons, Brian, David and
Chris. He also enjoys fishing, hunting and golf.
